Lesson plan on connection of series
Lesson plan
Topic: Connection in series
Subject: Science
Grade: V
Teaching learning materials: Computer, google search engine, all Sim- simulation, google classroom, and quiz.
Teaching skills in focus: Giving instruction and organizing learning activities.
Teaching skills in focus: Giving instruction and organizing learning activities.
The objective of the lesson:
By the end of the lesson the student will able to :
By the end of the lesson the student will able to :
- define at least four terms such as open, and close circuit, conductors, and insulators correctly after reading the materials from the provided URL.
- construct different types of the circuit in series correctly after the activity.
Lesson introduction
Teacher: Good morning class.
Students: Good morning sir/ madam
Teacher: How are you all today?
Students: We are fine sir/ madam
Teacher: Ok then, before moving on to a new topic, let us recapitulate what we have learnt yesterday.
Students: Ok sir.
Teacher: What did we learn yesterday?
Student: In the last class we learn about simple connection.
Teacher: Have you seen a switch at your house?
Student: Yes madam
Teacher: Very good, then what happens when we turn off a switch?
Student: The light goes off.
Teacher: very smart! What makes light goes off?
Student: It may be due to connection problem.
Teacher: Good. what you have said is right, turning off a switch breaks the circuit and the flow of current stops.
So today we are going to learn about different types of connection in series. In this class, you will know about a connection in series and how to construct the connection in series. You will also know the open circuit and closed circuit, conductor and insulator.

General instruction:
- You all will join google classroom for the activity. Since you already know how to join google classroom.
- To join science class, use password as 9395n5a.
- All the instruction are uploaded in google classroom. Click on About
- Download the instruction and work on it.
- You will write all your answers in Microsoft Word 2010 or 2007.
- You will upload the activity’s answers in google classroom.
- To open your Microsoft Word, click on start button and from their click Microsoft Word 2010 or 2007 and you will upload to Google Classroom.
Information input
Activity 1
Instruction
- Copy the link given below on the google search engine and watch the clip carefully and answer the following questions
A. What is open circuit?
B. What is closed circuit?
C. How open and closed circuit are different?
2. Copy the below URL in the google search engine and press enter.
- You need to use All sim-PhET Simulation to answer the activities below.
- Copy the above URL in the google search engine and press enter.
- After that click the ‘Circuit Construction Kit (DC)’
- Then click on the play button of ‘Circuit Construction Kit (DC)’
- By then you will be ready to use the ‘Simulation’.
Construct the circuit as below figure 6.3.
figure 6.3
- Place each material one by one in the place of the switch.
- You need to write whether the particular object makes the bulb glow or not (if it glows write ’YES’ and if it doesn't glow write ‘NO’).
- You need to use following materials from the left panel of the screen.
(Dollar Bill, paper clip, coin, eraser, pencil, hand, dog, and wire)
Sl:no

Materials that allow electric current to pass through them are called conductors.
Materials that do not allow electric current to pass through them are called insulators.
After the experiment, you will draw the same table given above in Microsoft word and answer the question. You will upload your answers in google classroom.
Answer the following question
- What are conductor and insulator, give some examples for each?
Activity 2
After conducting all experiment in PhET simulation, you will write answers in Microsoft word. You will post your answers in the google classroom.
Activity instruction
- You need to use All sim-PhET Simulation to answer the activities below.
- Copy the above URL in the google search engine and press enter.
- After that, click the ‘Circuit Construction Kit (DC)’
- Then click on the play button of ‘Circuit Construction Kit (DC)’
- By then you will be ready to use the ‘Simulation’.
Activity 3
Activity and instructions
Use the materials from the left and right panel of the screen to construct the following circuit.
Make a circuit as given below in figure 6.4.
Figure 6.4
Connect the circuit by connecting the switch or close the circuit.
Q1. What happened to the bulb?
Ans:
Detach the switch.
Q2. What happened to the bulb now?
Ans:
Activity 4
Make a circuit as shown below in figure 6.5.
The voltmeter connected in the diagram is to find the voltage across the circuit.
figure 6.5
Turn on the switch.
Q1. What voltage is supplied to the circuit?
Observe the brightness of the bulb.
Turn off the switch.
Add one more cell as shown below in figure 6.6.
Figure 6.6
Turn on the switch.
Q2. What voltage is supplied to the circuit?
Q3. What happened to the brightness of the bulb? Why?
Turn off the switch.
Now add one more bulb near the first bulb as shown below in the figure 6.7.
figure 6.7.
Now turn on the switch.
Q4. What difference do you see in the brightness of the bulbs? Why?
Turn off the switch.
Add one more bulb near the second bulb like in the figure 6.8.
figure 6.8.
Now turn on the switch.
Q5. Do all the bulbs glow with the same brightness?
Q6. Why does the brightness decrease when you connect more bulbs in the circuit?
Lesson closure (Activity 5)
- To check your learning I want you all to do a small quiz on the connection topic. To do the quiz, you will need to open the link given below.
- URL: http://www.softschools.com/quizzes/science/series_circuit/quiz3663.html
- After completing your work, you can screen clip the result.
- Then paste the result into a Microsoft Word document.
- Save your result in the Microsoft word document as Quiz result.
- Send your result to google classroom.
Thank you……..
My reflection
To write this lesson plan we used google docs to discuss what things we needed to include in the plan. the lesson planning went well through vigorous discussion among the group members. Interesting thing about this google classroom is that many people can join together and work together from any place if one is connected with the internet. I really enjoiyed doing the activity.
